Argyle Scholarship support praised

She is one of 10 recipients of the $6000 award established by Lincoln University in 2020. The scholarship programme recognises the contribution of Marlborough’s Gordon Holmes to farming and education, and encourages people in the region to study at Lincoln.

The scholarship derives its name from Argyle Farm (formerly owned by Mr Holmes), a 433-hectare sheep and cattle property in the Wairau Valley, at the junction of the Wairau and Branch Rivers and 63 kilometres west of Blenheim.

 Emma is studying a Bachelor of Agricultural Science with Honours, and is in her final year at Lincoln University.

“I applied for the scholarship with the hope of gaining financial assistance to complete my four-year degree and the scholarship has been fantastic in this regard.

“It has minimised my student loan balance and allowed me to focus on my studies, leading to the opportunity to be a part of the honours programme for my final year,” Emma said.

The scholarship recipients must intend to work in the agriculture, food and fibre sectors on completion of their study.

“With the encouragement of the scholarship, I have based all my holiday work in the Marlborough region within various agricultural sectors, giving me a continuously expanding pool of knowledge,” she said.

“I have recommended this scholarship to a number of people and will continue to do so, due to the opportunity and assistance it has given me. I am hugely appreciative of this award and I hope it continues to be available to future Lincoln University students. “

Emma is also a Sports Scholar at Lincoln.
