Celebrating Postgraduate week at Lincoln

15 April 2025 | News

When classes stop and the undergraduates go on break, our diligent postgraduates keep tinkering away at their studies and long-term projects.

That’s why Lincoln University dedicates the first week of mid-term break to them. Postgraduate Week provides our higher-education students with fun activities, helpful sessions and many chances for a tasty feed. They come out of the week better prepared for the final half of the first semester, armed with top academic tips and the knowledge of how to manage study stress.

Postgraduate Operations Coordinator Fiona Bellinger said people really enjoyed the opportunities on offer.

“Postgrad students make up about 50% of our students here, so it’s an opportunity to provide a week of special events just for them.”

On Monday, students could learn how to improve their self-esteem, better navigate databases, and access opportunities in the job market.

Tuesday was dedicated to helping our students get underway with lecturing and tutoring, and our Research Masters students with their proposals.

The whole of Wednesday was spent at the All Day Writers Retreat, a popular session for dissertation and thesis writers to focus on their work in a quiet environment, talk to others about their project, and enjoy a delicious morning tea and lunch.

On Thursday, new students were offered a tour of the campus, followed by an open postgrad morning team. In the afternoon, students were invited to a stress management workshop and a session on keeping physically active while working.

The week was concluded with a campus art tour on Friday morning and a session on procrastination and motivation in the afternoon.

The Creative Space was set up throughout the week in the Library, providing a place for students and staff to decompress and have a fun break from their work.

Activities there included 3D printing, harakeke putiputi and the unique chance to add a thread to our Kākahu (cloak) project, which will be unveiled at Lincoln’s 150th anniversary.

A big thank you to all who came along and supported the week.
