International Women’s Day: Honouring our wāhine researchers

08 March 2025 | News

Happy International Women’s Day! Today, we celebrate the remarkable contributions of women across all fields, especially those who are shaping the future of our land-based industries.

We couldn't be prouder of the achievements of our female researchers, like Dr. Lucy Hall, whose mahi is helping to innovate New Zealand dairy farming.

Lucy completed her PhD at Lincoln University in partnership with DairyNZ. Her research focused on making dairy farms better for both farmers and cows.

3MT Competition 2022

Her study on how milking schedules impact both farmer productivity and cow wellbeing earned her the top spot in our 2022 Three-Minute Thesis competition and is now helping push the dairy industry towards greater sustainability and efficiency.

Now a post-doctoral scientist at DairyNZ, she continues her impactful work.

A recent feature in Farmers Weekly shares Lucy’s passion for the dairy sector, research and recent achievements.

“I am lucky to work in a role which brings together my passion for animals, science, and wellbeing.”

We are grateful to be a part of the growing number of women making an impact in the industry, supporting one another, and contributing to the broader growth of the agricultural sector.
