Kuehne + Nagel share industry insights with potential interns

11 October 2024 | News

For years Kuehne + Nagel has been bringing Lincoln University graduates overseas, but last week three key members of the international shipping company came to us.

Executive Vice President of Sea Logistics Michael Aldwell, National Managing Director Simon Dedman and Head of Sea Logistics Americas, East Asia & Oceania Marcus Reimann spoke to a small group of Supply Chain Management students on Friday, offering industry insights and more information about the internship they could apply for.

Kuehne + Nagel (KN) has been growing its internship programme over the last eight years. Each year a group of Lincoln graduates head to New York, gaining comprehensive experience with the company and preparing them to start their careers.

The internship is open to any student who has completed a major or minor in the Supply Chain Management programme at Lincoln University.

Michael himself is a Lincoln alumnus and knows how valuable a strong education can be. He graduated 17 years ago with a Bachelor of Commerce.

“There’s not many universities around the world like this.

“You come out with a practical mindset.”

He loved his time at Lincoln and appreciated how The University exposed him to people with a wide variety of mindsets and skills.

The trio answered a variety of student questions, sharing more about their background, their positions and the internship.

Simon spoke on the unique challenges of managing freight in New Zealand, as it was in a unique spot geographically with a small population.

Marcus said what KN wanted in an intern was somebody with a willingness to learn and apply themselves, but also the confidence to put their opinion forward.

“We learn so much from our interns, we want you to speak up.”

The conversation was moderated by Associate Professor Mark Wilson, who leads the Supply Chain Management programme.

He said the students who returned were almost unrecognisable after their internships, as they had learned and experienced so much.

“You come back a completely different person.”
