Lincoln netballers leading competition

12 July 2021 | Students News

The Lincoln University A premier netball side are at the top of the table, with the second round of play in the Christchurch Netball Centre competition just underway.

Captain Kate Grant said they had had a great season so far, with coach Andrea Cousins developing a new game plan involving whole team defence.

They have been working on it week by week and now "consistently deliver amazing D throughout the entire court".

She said the side had faced a few challenges, with several players away due with the National Netball league and the Mainland Tactixs (for which she made her own debut this season), "but everyone always puts in 100% to our club team when we are together".

"For the rest of the season, we are working on our attacking end and converting all of those gains that we make on defence. Coming in top of the table in the first round is exciting and we don’t plan on stopping there."

The side finished top in last year's Covid-19 disrupted season and are hopefully going to repeat that effort in 2021.

Netball is part of Lincoln University's successful Sports Scholarship programme.
