A new event reaching out to the Pasifika community in Hawke's Bay proved a big success last month.
Student Liaison Officer Tiana Manuatu spoke to a receptive audience in Flaxmere about Lincoln University's programmes, wide range of scholarships and student support services.
She said the Ocean Collective, a group formed by Pasifika student liaison staff members from the eight universities in New Zealand, met at a conference in April and discussed a shared desire to better cater for the Pasifika community.
This was the first event that came from the meeting, which involved Lincoln University and Victoria University of Wellington hosting a roadshow, with assistance from the Ministry of Education.
Tiana said there is a strong Pasifika community in Hawke's Bay and there was a good turnout on the night.
The event raised awareness of university study in general, but specifically focused on the offerings from Lincoln and Victoria.
"This was the first time Ocean Collective has held an event and it was very successful. We hope to continue this within the community," Tiana said.
