Research leads to role with global company

08 September 2022 | News

Ben Bowie’s research for his Master of Commerce and Management degree led to a career with a global business that has a history of employing Lincoln graduates.

The 2022 graduate, who will be attending the Lincoln Graduation Celebration on 23 September, said he had the opportunity to interview several key players in the logistics industry including freight forwarders, airlines, shipping lines and other industry professionals.

One of these was Kuehne+Nagel, who showed interest in me during this time and followed up with me on completing my studies.

Kuehne+Nagel is a large global company that has hired many Lincoln graduates who are now working around the world.

Ben is based in Christchurch in Perishable Operations.

"My day-to-day responsibilities are heavily centred around export and import operations, facilitating perishable sea freight shipments. This often involves extensive planning and management, as well as a high level of service and communication with key customer accounts, shipping lines and other third parties.

"I am also heavily involved in non-perishable FCL (full container load) and LCL (less than a container load) exports, more specifically, bulk and bottled New Zealand wine product. Seasonal programmes including the 2021/2022 summer stone fruit season have also provided me with some insight and experience in the air freight space.

"I have plans to transfer internally over the next few years, which is a huge perk of working for a global company like K+N. They are very supportive of internal transfers and gaining experience in other countries/trade lanes."

Ben was also a Sports Scholar at Lincoln and a stalwart of the basketball team.
