Special LU rugby jersey auction part of Club Day celebration

12 May 2023 | News

The LU Rams are literally giving the shirts off their backs to help rural wellbeing charity Farmstrong on Club Day on 20 May.

The special one-off rugby jerseys will be auctioned on Trade Me from Tuesday 16 May and will be online for seven days. As part of the Club Day celebration, Lincoln alumnus and All Black legend, Sam Whitelock, a Farmstrong ambassador, will be at the aftermatch function on campus in the university cafe, Mrs O's.

Featuring a unique design, the jerseys have been signed by some of the club’s high-profile former players, such as All Blacks Jack Goodhue, Sam Whitelock, Jordie and Scott Barrett, and they bear the names of some of the club stalwarts.

Students, staff, alumni and the community are invited to Club Day to enjoy a festival of sport, which has all the LU teams playing at home and features a DJ, giveaways to anyone wearing blue and yellow, and a free BBQ.

Lincoln University Sport Scholarship Manager Peter Magson said sport was a huge part of the student experience at Lincoln, and Club Day was about celebrating that and "encouraging people to come down to the games to watch some top-quality matches, support the teams and have some fun".

He said alumni would probably love to get their hands on a jersey to commemorate their time at Lincoln, and support a great cause at the same time, but he also thought they would appeal to collectors and rugby fans generally.

"It’s going to be a lot of fun."
