Sportsperson of the Year reaching new heights

28 September 2023 | News

Ella Harris, last year’s winner of the Sportsperson of the Year at the annual Lincoln University Blues and Golds awards, has continued to stand out in her code.

The Blues and Golds awards recognise student achievement on the sports field, and in community and cultural service.

Ella represented New Zealand at the Junior World Karate championships in Turkey late last year, where she finished 13th in her category.

She has also won two under-21 national titles this year, to add to the Oceania title she previously won with the New Zealand senior women's karate team, and myriad other placings in international and domestic competitions, which earned her the Blues and Golds accolade last year.

The Sports Scholar and Bachelor of Science student said it was an honour to receive such recognition from the university last year, "especially on an evening that highlighted the calibre of all our Lincoln University athletes".

This year's awards will be held on 19 October, with a new crop of nominees ready to take to the stage and be honoured for their efforts on the sports field and in the community.
