What you will learn

After successfully completing this course, you’ll be able to:

1. Discuss the political and global environment in which New Zealand horticulture operates.

2. Explain the role of horticulture in the New Zealand economy in relation to differing land uses, production systems and legislation.

3. Discuss New Zealand’s primary industry and financial systems, including equity, debt, investment analysis, enterprise purchase and financing, and the development, expansion and diversification of a horticultural enterprise.

4. Prepare reports on different horticultural enterprises and industries using investment analysis, budget, and cash flow techniques.

5. Explain risk management and labour management with respect to New Zealand horticultural enterprises.
