School gardens growing as festival approaches

15 February 2021 | Corporate News

The kids from West Eyreton school are excited about creating their garden for the Grow Ōtautahi Festival, which is presented by Lincoln University, even though their theme is rest, relax and recharge.

They have a pile of skis they are going to incorporate into the design, as well as balls, bike helmets, sports shoes and packs to be used for sculptural elements.

West Rolleston, Diamond Harbour, and Banks Avenue schools are also creating gardens , as well as  St Margaret’s, and St Marks. Each is given a 4mx4m plot to design and plant in a way that reflects their school or their surrounding environment.

Lincoln University student Lincoln Roper is Youth Ambassador for the festival and working with the youngsters to encourage them to learn more about food, the environment and how they can contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future, and is impressed by the passion they are showing for the project.

Make sure you check out all the school gardens at the FREE festival from March 12-14 in the Christchurch Botanic Gardens as well as some horticultural tips from our own experts.
